Chris Bell is an emerging artist, working in a variety of mediums diligently coercing them into her vision of a realistic representation of her subjects inspired by a love of animals, her natural surroundings and a fascination with vibrant colors.
BIOGRAPHY
Chris Bell is from the Madison County, NC Phillips family. Chris has been an artist all her life, attending Mars Hill University in 1987 as an Art Major. As life often twists and turns Chris left her Art aspirations to care for her family. In 2012 Chris returned a more determined focus on her passion for Art expression and began a self-taught exploration that in 2016 serendipitously led her to discover the art medium of her dreams being Alcohol Ink whose unruly nature and ultra-vivid bright colors continue to tickle her soul and she is producing artworks that resonate in harmony with her ambition. During the Pandemic times of 2020 while being quarantined away in her studio she has rediscovered her interest and love for a multitude of other mediums as she continues her growth and exploration as an artist.
Born October 10th, 1969
Lives and works in Mars Hill, North Carolina
ARTIST STATEMENT
Creating art for me is like drinking good Appalachian spring water… Nothing tastes better! Being an artist and creating artworks is the sweetness of my life… Sometimes it’s cool and crisp thirst quenching and other times its red hot like mountain moonshine… I get drunk on it… I lose my sense of time and specific space… I’m in the “Zone”… I’m with the divine… My specific and perhaps unusual ability to coerce the unruly Alcohol Ink medium to my will and vision give a viewer the opportunity to experience amazing detail and ultra-vibrant color… that is surprising and fascinating. During the recent times of the Pandemic of 2020 while quarantining at my home and studio I have been in the process of re-discovering my passion for many more art mediums from my past and I am pleasantly surprised to see the extent to which my in-depth devotion to Alcohol Inks have informed my color preference... All my art is more vibrant and alive than ever before...
